This bill is designated to toughen federal regulation of the commodity futures markets as well as permanently authorize the federal Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to oversee those markets.
The House disagreed unanimously to the Senate amendments to H.R. 2788 Department of the Interior and Related Agencies Appropriation 1990; and agreed to a conference with the Senate.
SUMMARY: The Commodity Futures Trading Commission ("CFTC" or "Commission") has been engaged in a comprehensive regulatory reform effort designed to update the agency's oversight of both exchange and off-exchange markets.
As part of this reform effort, the Commission is reexamining its approach to the over-the-counter ("OTC") derivatives market.
