      • In what was called the largest consumer settlement in Texas history, Attorney General Jim Mattox Monday mailed nearly $10 million to consumers he said were victims of a fraudulent insurance sales scheme.
      • Mattox announced the agreed settlement with Academy Life Insurance Co. of Valley Forge, Pa., last May, saying the company had ‘consistently and meticulously disguised’ a particular policy as an investment plan for the elderly when in fact it was primarily life insurance.
